Erin Vilardi’s road to co-founding Vote Run Lead began with a college internship. The internship turned into a job offer, which turned into an opportunity to spearhead a new initiative aimed at increasing women’s representation in government. When the initiative was closed 10 years later, Vilardi and a group of fellow political organizers around the US banded together to revive it, this time with a focus on training women to run for office.
Since 2014, the new look Vote Run Lead’s content and workshops have reached a phenomenal 35,000 women, including Ilhan Omar and Lauren Underwood. Since 2016, over 55% of Vote Run Lead’s first-time candidates won their races - a staggering improvement on the typical 10% first-time candidate success rate. Now they’re working to “gender flip” the state legislatures of Minnesota, New York, and Georgia.
